Theo(God) Phostic(light) is a powerful and thoroughly biblical approach to ministry. Theophostic ministry is not a spin-off of any other traditional approach. It should not be confused with any other accelerated form of therapy. It is based on the words of Jesus who said, "when you know the truth, the truth will set you free...for when the Son of Man sets you free, you will be free indeed!" (Jn. 8:32,36)
What Is Theophostic Ministry
Theophostic ministry believes a person's present emotional pain comes from the misinterpretations (lies) embedded in their memories and not from the memories themselves. For example, an incest victim feels shame not because she was molested but because she believes it was her fault (the lie).
Theophostic Ministry recognizes that we can only "act as far as we can think." Our behavior is limited to the data stored in the mind. Therefore in order to act differently we must be "renewed in our minds."
Theophostic principles understand present behavior to be drawn from "experiential knowledge" (that which we have actually experienced) and not from logical truth (data believed as truth but never realized through experience.)
Theophostic Ministry is about renewing the mind at the experiential level of consciousness.
Theophostic ministry recognizes that every emotional pain in the present has an origin, source and beginning. Therefore, unless the person is able to return to the original memory event where the lie was first embedded, true release of the emotional pain in the present will not occur.
The key to Theophostic ministry's effectiveness is its ability to quickly uncover and identify such lies and lead the wounded person to the place where he is able to receive a direct word from Jesus Christ.
Theophostic ministry recognizes that ministry based on logic and reason will not result in true release of the pain one carries from historical woundedness. Cognitive approaches require the individual to exert continuous self effort toward freedom with little or no lasting results. Theophostic Ministry requires the person to feel, identify the original lie and receive truth from God.
Theophostic ministry recognizes the futility of trying to talk a person out of their false belief and acknowledges that apart from a direct word from the Lord Jesus, nothing significant will ever happen.
Theophostic acknowledges that Jesus is the only one who can truly release the wounded from their emotional/mental bondage. Theophostic (God's Light) is all about the Lord Jesus.
What is the Biblical Basis for Theophostic Ministry?
Theophostic Ministry acknowledges that Jesus Christ is central to all true healing and freedom. Apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5).
Theophostic Ministry assumes man's troubles are rooted in the lies he believes, which results in sin and consummates in spiritual separation (James 1:14-15).
Theophostic Ministry embraces the primary call of the church to go forth and proclaim the good news of freedom in Christ to all the world (Matt. 28:19-20), to destroy the works of the evil one (1 John 3:8), to bring truth to those held captive by the grip of the kingdom of darkness, and prepare the way for His second coming by making ready His bride (Luke 4:18).
Theophostic Ministry acknowledges that man is "beautifully and wonderfully made" as a trichotomy of body, soul and spirit (1 Thess. 5:23). The spirit of man is fully redeemed through the atoning work of the cross of Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). The soul of man is in the process of being redeemed through the renewal of the mind (this is Theophostic) (Romans 12:2). The body is non-redeemable, but will be replaced with a new glorified body at the Lord's soon coming (Romans 8:23, Phil. 3:21).
Theophostic Ministry is based on the reality of a sovereign God who is able to do "exceedingly abundantly, far beyond whatever we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Eph. 3:20).
The reason we may not see this reality is due to the absence of the "power" that is not being released through "us". When we seek to do ministry in our own power nothing divine happens.
Theophostic Ministry simply accepts that man's ways are not God's ways, and man's ways (of ministry) have not produced what God's word says should be happening in the ministry setting.
How doesTheophostic differ from other types of ministry?
1. Theophostic Ministry is not a process like traditional recovery. It is a healing moment.
When the Theophostic principles are properly applied they result in God's healing grace. Theophostic ministry is reliable, predictable and consistent in its healing results. Many approaches to ministry are based on a theory of process. A person moves along slowly, hopefully becoming "better" as he gains new insight and chooses to apply it. Such therapy views people as being "in" recovery. Theophostic ministry arrives at complete recovery, memory by memory, lie by lie, with each healing moment. Once a person experiences healing with Theophostic ministry he is able to say, "ALL of my shameful, fearful, helpless, emotions that were in my memories are completely gone" .....and these painful emotions do not return.
2. Recovery through Theophostic ministry requires no effort on the person's part to maintain.
The success of Theophostic ministry is not dependent on the therapist's wisdom or insight, or the person's effort and determination to maintain. It is divinely powerful and complete. Once healing occurs it is maintenance free because true healing is the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. True emotional healing cannot be claimed if the individual must work at and maintain their state of freedom. Once truth is received at the memory experiential level, the pain will instantly leave and will never return. Once light touches the darkness, the darkness (lie) can never return and overcome the light. You can bring light into the darkness but you cannot bring darkness into the light.
3. Theophostic provides a means for the non-professional in minstry to be more effective.
Nonprofessionals who are in helping ministries will benefit greatly from learning this method of ministry. Where most therapies require an extensive background in psychological training, Theophostic ministry is biblically based, and is not dependent on any other theory of ministry. A background in psychology and ministry may be beneficial but it is not essential. Lay ministers and pastors without psychological training can effectively minister to hurting people with Theophostic ministry.
APPOINTMENTS AND TRAINING:
Many churches are presently developing ministry teams using Theophostic ministry as their primary approach in helping the wounded people who come their way.
